Business Communications: What to do and what not to do

So much of business is about communication. Sometimes the communication is good, sometimes not so good. By that I mean there is clarity in the communication sometimes, and sometimes there's a lack of clarity.

Too often nowadays litigation relies on the production of communications that someone says happened, but that communication is either disputed as to it ever happening or is disputed on the basis of what was communicated. A primary culprit involved in this dispute is your phone. More properly, the text message function on your phone.

My unwavering advice to you is this: Don't make business engagements via text. If you must, follow-up with the apparently archaic e-mail or even more archaic letter. Text messages get deleted without the ability to retrieve them. E-mails at least go to a sent folder or perhaps a deleted folder, but can still be retrieved.

Save yourself a major evidentiary problem and use a means of communication that can be reproduced or retrieved. It could save you, quite literally, hundreds of thousands of dollars.
